We could take you on a tour of the Columbus Zoo with our eyes closed (but that wouldn't be much fun). We go there all the time but didn't officially count it until the end. There's so much to love about our hometown zoo (I just wish we had giraffes!). My personal favorite is probably the bonobos—closely related to chimpanzees and rare in zoos. They're always doing something crazy, causing a scene. The gorillas and orangutans are great. We love Asia Quest—especially the tiger exhibit where the big cats walk right up against the glass and stare you down. We have koalas! You can feed lorikeets. And ride a train, carousel, or boat. We have moose and grizzly bears—and polar bears are coming soon! You can pet all kinds of animals and see Beco, our baby elephant. We have a great Animals on Safari Show, and if you like rides and getting wet, Jungle Jack's Landing (amusement park rides) and Zoombezi Bay (water park) are fantastic!

The Saint Louis Zoo is FREE (but with a catch). You can get in without paying, but the shows and Children's Zoo cost money. Thankfully, they gave us Safari passes—and stingray tickets! We were bummed when all we saw were keepers from 8:00-9:00 a.m. The animals don't start coming out until 9:00. But once they did, we weren't disappointed. We got to touch stingrays—fun! Two huge gorillas chased and fought each other, much to everyone's delight. We loved the carousel, and the train ride was the best of any zoo. Our favorite exhibit was Penguin and Puffin Coast. No penguin exhibit comes close—not even Sea World. Nina, our puffin-lover, was in heaven. We loved the Saint Louis Zoo!

Two thumbs up for the Kansas City Zoo! Our first stop (after the super-active river otters) was the Sea Lion Show. It was probably the best one we've seen yet (not counting Sea World). The sea lions did all kinds of crazy stunts. We rode the carousel, then took the tram to African Market. We watched two huge male silverback gorillas being fed (the keeper threw them pieces of fruits and veggies). Our favorite animal of the day was a male Grant's zebra foal—he was just 15 days old and running and skipping all over the place. His perfect little body and brown stripes were too adorable. The new Tropics exhibit (indoor rainforest) was beautiful but pretty small. Besides Nina wiping out and skinning her knees in her haste to see the hippo, we had a great day!
